What does SELECT PLATFORM() do?

What does this do and what does it tell me? I'm on SQL Server 2000. In QA run:
 SELECT PLATFORM()
I either get a result of 513 or 1025. I found this statement in a profiler trace session.

It's an undocumented fuction intended for Microsoft use only.
