Date format in SQL Server

Usually the date format in SQL Server is mm/dd/yyyy. Is it possible to change the format to dd/mm/yyyy?

SQL Server does not have a date format. Dates are stored internally as a number offset from a reference date. When you return a date from SQL Server, the application that you use to display the results of that query format the date according to your OS display settings. Look up the convert function in Books Online to change that format on the fly within your query results.
