Adding column and changing datatype

I need to add a column and change a datatype on a publishing table in a replicated database. I would like to do this without having to drop and recreate replication. Is there a way? I am using SQL Server 2000.

You can add a column to a table without dropping the subscription first. You can also change a datatype much the same way. If you add a column, copy data, and then drop the old column, you have accomplished a datatype change.
