Backup and Recovery
Gold Award:
LiteSpeed for SQL Server 4.6
Described as the "most tiered and flexible" of the nominations, our judges chose Quest Software Inc.'s LiteSpeed for SQL Server 4.6 to take the Gold Award for Backup and Recovery in our Products of the Year 2006 contest.
LiteSpeed lets users create smaller, faster and more secure backup and recovery processes in the SQL Server database environment.
Its earlier version, LiteSpeed for SQL Server 4.0, took the gold in last year's General Database Utilities category in SQL Server Products of the Year 2005.
Kicking it up a notch in this version, our judges recognized LiteSpeed for SQL Server 4.6 as being highly granular with multiple levels of recovery. Users can recover data anywhere from the object level, such as a stored procedure to full database recovery.
As a backup and recovery tool, LiteSpeed outshines the competition. It reduces storage costs and backup/recovery windows by compressing data up to 95% -- in half the time required by other backup products.
Quest touts LiteSpeed for its time-saving features with technology that knocks off up to 70% of traditional backup and restore time. This type of time savings is possible because the product recovers individual database objects and encapsulates complete database restores into a single file.
Quest designed LiteSpeed to mimic native tools in SQL Server and, therefore, gives users the added benefit of being easy to use and easy to implement within a Windows environment.
Some standout features include:
- Backup file encryption and compression
- Object-level recovery
- Double-click restore
- Integrated log shipping
LiteSpeed's tight integration with SQL Server and its small OS footprint make it easy to download as well as install and use in a wide range of Windows environments.
Quest's LiteSpeed for SQL Server Developer Edition starts at $45 and goes up to $11,515 for LiteSpeed for SQL Server Enterprise.
