About Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
Two-years after releasing SQL Server 2008, Microsoft is following up with an R2 version of the database management system (DBMS). Available in early 2010, SQL Server 2008 R2 (Kilimanjaro) offers a variety of benefits, enhancements and new tools to simplify SQL Server management, administration and development. In addition to improved scalability and new consolidation tools, the SQL Server 2008 R2 upgrade also allows for better management of multiple instances and databases; includes changes to SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS); and features the new business intelligence (BI) tool, Master Data Services, as well as the add-on, SQL Server PowerPivot (Project Gemini).
