Microsoft announced this week the release of its first community technology preview (CTP) of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 for MSDN and TechNet subscribers.
The preview is the first chance for users to test out new features such as application and multi-server management, which is designed to improve developer and DBA efficiency. Users will also be able to preview SMP scale-up, with support for up to 256 logical processors, and self-service reporting in Report Builder 3.0.
More CTPs are expected to launch in upcoming weeks. SQL Server 2008 R2 is scheduled for release next year.
