Working with a new piece of technology can be intimidating. Not having the technology installed correctly can only lead to more difficultly. This guide outlines steps to properly install SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and the current service pack to get you going in the right direction.

Where can I obtain my copy?

Reporting Services ships with the SQL Server 2005 media by default, it is simply an optional installation selection. Reporting Services can also be downloaded as a portion of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services or directly as a trial edition. The installation process is generally the same, but the detailed steps and screenshots in this tip are from installing Reporting Services directly from the SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition media.
