Step 1: Plan your migration
First and foremost, build a plan that outlines the logistics for the project. It should include items like dates, times, systems, team members and so on. Make sure the plan outlines all of the major steps in the project from the requirements to the deployment. Incorporate a rollback plan into the overall plan to ensure the SQL Server 2000 environment can be used if a problem occurs in the migration process.
