QUESTION POSED ON: 20 February 2008
I have run the Service Pack 2 (SP2) install for SQL Server 2005 several times and keep getting an error stating that the account is not able to rename a file. I have added the account to the file security as "full control." I am trying to accomplish this through a remote desktop session (RDP). What am I doing wrong?

Your best bet is to run any SQL Server installation using an account that is a local administrator on the computer you are installing the service pack on. This will guarantee that the installation program can access the registry and the file system to perform the tasks it needs to do in order to fully install the application.
