QUESTION POSED ON: 18 November 2005
I am having a problem installing SQL Server 2000 on Microsoft Windows XP Pro. I get the error, "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition server component is not supported on this operating system."

However, I don't need to install server components if I'm using a hosting service that supports SQL Server on their server. I should only need to install client tools.

That's correct. All you want is the client tools. One you install them you can then connect to a remote server. In most cases with hosted services, you will have to use something like Terminal Services or Citrix Metaframe to get to the SQL Server client tools.
