QUESTION POSED ON: 07 October 2004
Is there any way to alias a call to functions such as trim so that the database owner name is not required to be prepended to the function name (e.g. dbo.trim)? Oracle and DB2 seemed to provide this aliasing without much fuss, and we are faced with the prospect of modifying a lot of source code to get stuff to play in SQL Server if we can't find an aliasing mechanism or some other work-around.

EXPERT RESPONSE
No. Currently, user defined functions require the use of the owner name.
