QUESTION POSED ON: 20 February 2004
I had a Win2k server fail one day with an INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE error. We reloaded a second instance of Windows but we had SQL Server 2000 on it with two databases. How do I get that back without losing the databases?

EXPERT RESPONSE

Install SQL Server. Run sp_attachdb to reattach the databases. Alternatively, you can take all of your backups beginning with master and restore each one of them, which would get you back any logins that you may have created as well.
