Q

What's the best approach for restoring MSDB on another server?

Expert Greg Robidoux explains how to restore MSDB on another server while also allowing users access.

I can restore our database to another server and give users access without any problems, but I also have a large quantity of jobs and DTS packages. Can I restore the MSDB to this other server too? Or do I have to do something with the master database or anything else for that matter on the second server before or after restoring the MSDB?
The cleanest approach would be to move the jobs and the DTS packages to the new server. This can be done using DTS tasks.

For detailed info on how to migrate DTS packages, please refer to this article: http://www.sqldts.com/default....
