Syntax errors when using linked servers

Syntax errors may occur when trying to use linked servers. SQL Server development expert Greg Low explains the proper format for server name and instance.

When I try to use a linked server as ServerNameSecondInstances an error like this comes out:
Server: Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Line 1 Line 1: Incorrect syntax near."
Does it mean we cannot use SecondInstances for linked servers?
I'm not sure if that's an intentional syntax error, but server names should be of the format 'servernameinstancename.' Otherwise, I'll need to see the full syntax that you're trying to execute.
