Stored procedures and remote procedure calls

Expert Andrew Novick determines whether a stored procedure is also a remote procedure call.

Is a stored procedure a remote procedure call?
Yes, if a stored procedure is called from outside SQL Server it would be appropriate to refer to it as a remote procedure call or RPC. In the SQL Profiler, you'll see events for "RPC Start" and "RPC End". However, the same stored procedure may be called from another stored procedure and whether or not you want to call that an RPC is up to you.
