Q

SQL Server 2005 best practices for developer permissions

SQL Server Security expert Steven Andres suggests resources to help get you on your way in developing internal applications.

Our company is new to SQL Server with our acquisition of SQL Server 2005. We only develop internal applications. Are there best practices that we should follow regarding developer permissions?
There are a couple of Microsoft whitepapers that are an excellent resource for you:
  • Microsoft white Papers on SQL Server 2005
  • SQL Server 2005 – Security and Protection

Additional informative (non-Microsoft) guides are at:

  • SQL Server 2005 Best Practices
  • MSDN Webcast: Security Best Practices: Hardening Your SQL Server (Level 200)
  • This was first published in June 2006
