Implementing C++ Windows authentication

SQL Server Development expert Greg Low explains how to implement C++ Windows authentication for users connecting to SQL Server 2000.

I want to implement Windows Authentication for users connecting to an application under C++ development in SQL Server 2000. How can I do it?
SQL Server 2000 directly supports authenticating users via Windows Authentication. You need to:

  • Create an appropriate database role for the users
  • Assign appropriate permissions within the database to that role
  • Add the windows users (or better – their windows group) to that role
