Benchmarks for SQL Server 2000 Standard edition

Let me preface my question by stating I know very little about databases. However, I have been tasked with determining if SQL Server 2000 Standard can handle 14 million transactions per month, with 30 tps peak sustained for a period of 4 to 6 hours. I have reviewed some SQL Server 2000 benchmarks and almost all of these are SQL Server 2000 Enterprise. I understand running Standard may not be optimal, but Enterprise may not be an option here. Yes, no , and it depends. Can it handle that transaction volume? Yes. BUT, it depends greatly on your applications, database design, indexing, and a host of other factors that have nothing to do with SQL Server.
